Ingredients

For the Salmon:
  • 4 pieces whole fresh, skin-on salmon fillets cut about 1 1/2 inches thick
  • 1/2 cup salted butter very cold or frozen, plus more for greasing pan
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 whole large ripe yellow lemon cut into rounds and then halved

Equipment

  • Oven-safe baking dish
  • Sharp knife
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula
  • Whisk

Method

Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). This temperature is ideal for getting that perfect roasted finish on the salmon while keeping it moist and tender.
  2. Grease an oven-safe baking dish with a little butter to prevent the salmon from sticking. This will ensure an easy cleanup and keep your salmon intact when serving.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the very cold or frozen salted butter, dried thyme, turmeric, and salt. Use a whisk to blend the ingredients well until the butter is smooth and the spices are evenly incorporated.
  4. Place the salmon fillets in the prepared baking dish. Make sure they are skin-side down, allowing the skin to crisp up nicely during the cooking process.
  5. Arrange the halved lemon rounds on top of the salmon fillets. The lemon will infuse the fish with a refreshing flavor as it cooks, enhancing the overall dish.
  6. Spoon the butter and spice mixture generously over each salmon fillet. Ensure that each piece is well-coated for maximum flavor and moisture.
  7. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C).
  8. Once done, remove the salmon from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute. Serve warm, drizzled with any remaining buttery sauce from the baking dish, and enjoy the burst of flavors!
