Course: Appetizer
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese block, for optimal melting
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour for dredging
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch for extra crispiness
  • 2 cups Italian seasoned breadcrumbs for flavorful crunch
  • 1 cup milk for the batter
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Equipment

  • Deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot
  • Cooking thermometer
  • Slotted spoon
  • Paper towels

Method

  1. Begin by cutting the mozzarella cheese into sticks, approximately 1-inch wide. Lay them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for about 30 minutes.
  2. In three separate shallow dishes, prepare the flour, cornstarch, and breadcrumbs.
  3. Dredge each stick in the flour mixture first, then dip into the milk, and finally roll them in the seasoned breadcrumbs.
  4. Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) in your deep fryer or pot.
  5. Carefully lower the breaded mozzarella sticks into the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Serve your homemade mozzarella sticks hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add spices like garlic powder or cayenne to the breadcrumbs.
  • Try using a blend of mozzarella and cheddar for a different taste.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
