Ingredients

  • 3 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks), softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 tablespoons sugar (for rolling)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Whisk or electric mixer
  • Baking Sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Cooling rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and cream of tartar. Whisk until well blended.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
  4. Add the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together the 5 tablespoons of sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.
  7. Scoop portions of dough, roll them into balls, and coat each ball in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  8. Place the coated dough balls on a lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
  9. Remove cookies from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the dough.
  • Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can enhance flavor and texture.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain softness.
