Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 medium yellow onions, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Chopped chives for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Large skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula

Method

  1. In a large skillet, melt the 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onions and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of sea salt. Sauté the onions, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes or until they become golden brown and caramelized.
  2. Once the onions are nicely caramelized, add in 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper and stir well to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Remove the skillet from heat and let the onions cool slightly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the 1 cup of sour cream, 4 ounces of softened cream cheese, and 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. Using a spatula, mix until the ingredients are well combined and smooth.
  4. Once the onions have cooled enough to handle, fold them into the creamy mixture. Stir gently until the onions are evenly distributed throughout the dip.
  5. For the best flavor, cover the onion dip and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes before serving. When you're ready to serve, give the dip a good stir, garnish with chopped chives if desired, and enjoy with your favorite chips, crackers, or fresh veggies.
