Ingredients

For the Brownies:
  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup Hershey's cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Butter unsalted
  • 1 cup Sugar granulated
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Walnuts broken into pieces, optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • 9x9 inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Rubber spatula
  • Oven mitts

Method

Directions:
  1. Step 1: Preheat the Oven - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that your brownies bake evenly.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Baking Pan - Line a 9x9 inch baking pan with parchment paper, allowing some overhang for easy removal.
  3. Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients - In a mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, Hershey’s cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined. Set aside.
  4. Step 4: Melt the Butter - In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter until completely liquid. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  5. Step 5: Combine Sugar and Butter - In another mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar. Whisk together until smooth and creamy.
  6. Step 6: Add Vanilla and Eggs - Stir in the vanilla extract. Then, add the eggs one at a time, mixing until fully incorporated.
  7. Step 7: Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients - Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Stir just until no flour streaks remain.
  8. Step 8: Fold in Walnuts - If using, gently fold in the broken walnut pieces.
  9. Step 9: Pour into Pan - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  10. Step 10: Bake - Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  11. Step 11: Cool and Cut - Let the brownies cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Use parchment paper to lift them out and cool completely before cutting.

Notes

  • Ensure your butter is melted but not too hot to prevent cooking the eggs.
  • Don’t overbake! Brownies continue to cook slightly after removal.
  • Allow them to cool completely for cleaner cuts.
