For the Dough:

  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 envelope instant yeast I use Red Star Platinum Yeast
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil plus more for the bowl and drizzle
For the Toppings:
  • 1 cup cooked sausage choose your favorite type
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms fresh
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese the ultimate pizza cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Rolling Pin
  • Baking Sheet or Pizza Stone
  • Oven
  • Pizza Cutter

Method

Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, sugar, instant yeast, and kosher salt. Mix these dry ingredients together until evenly combined.
  2. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the warm water and olive oil. Using a wooden spoon or spatula, mix the ingredients until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed.
  4. Lightly oil a clean bowl and place the kneaded dough inside. Cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. While the dough is rising, prepare your toppings. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and cooked through. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until they are tender. Remove from heat and set aside.
  6. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you’re using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up as well.
  7. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Transfer it to a floured surface and roll it out to your desired thickness.
  8. Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a baking sheet or pizza stone. Spread a thin layer of olive oil over the dough, then layer on the cooked sausage and mushrooms. Finally, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the top.
  9. Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
  10. Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. If desired, sprinkle fresh basil leaves on top for a pop of color and flavor. Slice your pizza and serve it hot!

Notes

  • For a healthier option, use whole wheat flour instead of bread flour.
  • Feel free to experiment with different types of sausage.
  • Add extra veggies like bell peppers or spinach for more nutrition.
