Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, sugar, instant yeast, and kosher salt. Mix these dry ingredients together until evenly combined.
- Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the warm water and olive oil. Using a wooden spoon or spatula, mix the ingredients until a shaggy dough forms.
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed.
- Lightly oil a clean bowl and place the kneaded dough inside. Cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare your toppings. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and cooked through. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until they are tender. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you’re using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up as well.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Transfer it to a floured surface and roll it out to your desired thickness.
- Transfer the rolled-out dough onto a baking sheet or pizza stone. Spread a thin layer of olive oil over the dough, then layer on the cooked sausage and mushrooms. Finally, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the top.
- Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. If desired, sprinkle fresh basil leaves on top for a pop of color and flavor. Slice your pizza and serve it hot!
Notes
- For a healthier option, use whole wheat flour instead of bread flour.
- Feel free to experiment with different types of sausage.
- Add extra veggies like bell peppers or spinach for more nutrition.
