Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter cubed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons butter melted (for topping)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder for topping

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Pastry cutter or fork
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cooling rack

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) to ensure perfect baking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the cubed cold unsalted butter to the flour mixture. Cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese until just combined.
  5. Pour in the milk gradually, stirring until the dough comes together. A few lumps are fine.
  6. Lightly flour your work surface and turn the dough out onto it. Knead gently, then pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Cut out biscuits with a cutter and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  8. While the biscuits bake, melt the 3 tablespoons of butter and stir in the 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder.
  9. Brush the biscuits with the garlic butter topping right after baking. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Ensure your butter is cold for flaky biscuits.
  • Don’t overmix the dough to keep biscuits light and fluffy.
  • Add fresh herbs for an aromatic touch.
