Ingredients

  • 1/2 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 8-inch flour tortilla
  • 1/3 cup applesauce use your favorite brand
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon sugar for sprinkling

Equipment

  • Frying pan
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Serving plate

Method

  1. Begin by heating your frying pan over medium heat. While the pan is warming up, lay the flour tortilla flat on a clean surface.
  2. Spread 1/3 cup of applesauce evenly on one half of the tortilla. Be sure to leave a little space around the edges to prevent spillage when you fold it over.
  3. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of cinnamon sugar over the applesauce. This will add a delightful sweetness and warmth to your pie.
  4. Carefully fold the tortilla over the filled half, creating a semi-circle. Press down the edges gently to seal the filling inside. If you’d like, you can use a fork to crimp the edges for a decorative touch.
  5. Add 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil to the heated pan. Allow it to warm for a moment until it shimmers, signaling that it’s ready for frying.
  6. Place the folded tortilla into the frying pan, cooking for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until it turns golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
  7. Once your Fried Apple Pie is golden and crispy, remove it from the pan and place it on a serving plate. Let it cool slightly before diving in. You can sprinkle additional cinnamon sugar on top for an extra sweet touch!

Notes

  • For a variety, try different fruit purees like peach or berry.
  • These can also be baked at 375°F (190°C) for 10-15 minutes for a healthier option.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for 1-2 days.
