Ingredients

  • 1 pound refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup warm water to activate yeast
  • 1 1/8 teaspoon active dry yeast or 1 package of instant yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups room temperature water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil adds flavor and moisture
  • 4 cups bread flour (22 ounces)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt enhances flavor
  • 1 spray Non-stick spray for greasing
  • 3 tablespoons butter melted, for brushing
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated or finely minced garlic for flavor
  • 4 cups oil for frying choose your preferred oil
  • 4 tablespoons Parmesan cheese for cheesy goodness
  • 4 teaspoons Italian seasoning for flavor
  • 1 jar marinara sauce (24-ounce), for dipping

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Frying Pan or Deep Fryer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Spatula or slotted spoon
  • Baking sheet

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup of warm water with the yeast. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until it becomes frothy. Add the room temperature water, olive oil, bread flour, and salt. Mix until the dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Roll Out the Dough
  1. Once your dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut the dough into small nuggets, about 1-2 inches in size.
Heat Oil for Frying
  1. In a large frying pan or deep fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat. You’ll need enough oil to submerge the nuggets.
Fry the Dough Nuggets
  1. Carefully drop a few nuggets into the hot oil at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined baking sheet.
Flavor the Nuggets
  1. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter with the minced garlic. Brush this mixture over the hot nuggets immediately after frying. Then sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning while they’re still warm.
Serve
  1. Serve your dough nuggets warm with a side of marinara sauce for dipping. Enjoy every cheesy, garlicky bite!

Notes

  • Store leftover nuggets in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes to restore crispiness.
  • For longer storage, freeze the cooked nuggets in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer bag. They will keep for up to 2 months.
