Ingredients

  • 16 ounces Pace Picante Sauce adds flavor and heat
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise for creaminess
  • to taste Salt and pepper for seasoning
  • 1 cup chopped onion for crunch and flavor
  • 1 pound ground beef protein base
  • 14 ounces red kidney beans drained
  • 1 head iceberg lettuce chopped
  • 2 tomatoes chopped
  • 2 cups grated cheese Cheddar or Mexican blend
  • 1 small package Doritos nacho chips broken
  • 8 ounces Catalina salad dressing for the finishing touch

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Serving platter or bowl

Method

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook until the beef is browned and fully cooked through, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon as it cooks. Drain excess fat, if necessary.
  2. Season the beef mixture with salt and pepper to taste. Stir in the Pace Picante Sauce and allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes, letting the flavors meld together.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the mayonnaise and Catalina salad dressing. Whisk until smooth and set aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped iceberg lettuce, drained red kidney beans, chopped tomatoes, and grated cheese. Add the beef mixture and gently toss to combine.
  5. Just before serving, add the broken Doritos to the salad and drizzle the dressing over the top. Toss gently to ensure everything is coated without crushing the Doritos too much.
  6. Transfer the salad to a serving platter or bowl. Serve immediately for the best crunch, and enjoy your Dorito Taco Salad!

Notes

  • Store salad components separately for optimal freshness.
  • Add avocado or corn for additional flavors.
  • Assemble salad just before serving to keep Doritos crunchy.
