  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.67 cups butter softened
  • 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 0.25 cups Kahlua coffee liqueur plus 1 tablespoon, divided use
  • 0.75 cups chopped walnuts optional

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Rubber spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Double boiler or microwave-safe bowl

Method

Instructions
  1. Step 1: Preheat the Oven - Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This will ensure that your brownies bake evenly.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Baking Pan - Grease your 9x13-inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  3. Step 3: Melt the Chocolate and Butter - In a double boiler or a microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsweetened chocolate and the butter together until smooth.
  4. Step 4: Mix Dry Ingredients - In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  5. Step 5: Combine Eggs and Sugar - In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  6. Step 6: Add Melted Chocolate - Once the chocolate-butter mixture has cooled slightly, add it to the egg and sugar mixture. Stir until well combined.
  7. Step 7: Incorporate Kahlua - Pour in the ¼ cup of Kahlua coffee liqueur and mix until fully integrated.
  8. Step 8: Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients - Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients. Stir until just combined.
  9. Step 9: Fold in Walnuts - If you’re using walnuts, gently fold them into the brownie batter.
  10. Step 10: Pour and Bake - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan, smoothing it out evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
  11. Step 11: Add Extra Kahlua - Once out of the oven, brush the top with the remaining tablespoon of Kahlua. Allow the brownies to cool before cutting them into squares.

Notes

  • Use high-quality chocolate and Kahlua for the best flavor.
  • Be careful not to overmix the batter to ensure a tender texture.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
