Ingredients

  • 8 ounce cream cheese room temperature
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onion
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt *
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 cup freshly shredded cheddar cheese divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce or more, to taste
  • 1 pound fresh jumbo lump crab meat
  • Sourdough bread for serving
  • Crackers for serving
  • Tortilla chips for serving
  • Chopped cold veggies for serving

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Baking dish
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that when your crab dip is ready, it will bake evenly and come out warm and bubbly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the room temperature cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Use a spatula to mix until the mixture is smooth and creamy. This will be the rich base of your crab dip.
  3. Next, add the minced garlic, chopped green onion, Old Bay seasoning, salt, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice to the cream cheese mixture. Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated. This step is crucial as it builds the flavor profile of your dip.
  4. Gently fold in 1 cup of the freshly shredded cheddar cheese and the fresh jumbo lump crab meat. Be careful not to break up the crab too much; you want to maintain those beautiful chunks!
  5. Spoon the crab dip mixture into your prepared baking dish. Smooth the top with the spatula, and then sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top. This will create a delicious, cheesy crust when baked.
  6. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly, and the cheese is melted and golden. Keep an eye on it to avoid burning!
  7. Once your crab dip is ready, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve it warm with sourdough bread, crackers, tortilla chips, or fresh veggies for dipping. Enjoy every creamy, cheesy bite!

Notes

  • Use room temperature cream cheese for a smooth mixture; cold cream cheese can result in lumps.
  • Gently fold the crab into the mixture to avoid breaking up the meat too much.
  • Don't skip the lemon juice; it enhances the flavor and balances the richness of the dip.
  • Watch the baking time closely; overbaking can dry out the dip.
