Ingredients

For the Marinade:
  • 2 pounds chicken breasts, tenders, or thighs Any cut works, but thighs offer the juiciest results.
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce A great base that adds a savory flavor without being too salty.
  • 1/2 cup oil (vegetable or canola) Helps to lock in moisture and flavor.
  • 12 ounces Sprite (not diet) Adds sweetness and helps tenderize the meat.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Imparts a lovely aromatic flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish, plain or horseradish sauce Provides a subtle heat and complexity.

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Resealable Plastic Bag or Container
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Grill or oven

Method

Instructions
  1. Step 1: Prepare the Marinade - In a mixing bowl, combine the low-sodium soy sauce, vegetable oil, Sprite, garlic powder, and horseradish. Whisk until well blended.
  2. Step 2: Marinate the Chicken - Place your chicken in a resealable plastic bag or a container. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring every piece is coated. Seal the bag or cover the container.
  3. Step 3: Refrigerate - Let the chicken marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, but for the best flavor, aim for 4 hours or even overnight.
  4. Step 4: Cook the Chicken - Once marinated, remove the chicken from the marinade and discard the leftover liquid. Cook the chicken on a grill, in the oven, or on the stovetop until fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
  5. Step 5: Serve and Enjoy - Slice and serve your beautifully marinated chicken with your favorite sides. Enjoy the burst of flavors in every bite!

Notes

  • Always use low-sodium soy sauce to avoid overly salty chicken.
  • Marinate for 4 hours or overnight for best flavor.
  • Let the chicken rest after cooking for juicier results.
  • Discard the marinade after use to prevent contamination.
  • This marinade also works great with pork, beef, or tofu.
