Begin by draining the firm tofu and pressing it gently to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a weight on top for about 15 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). A hot oven will help the tofu to bake evenly and become crispy.
Once the tofu is pressed and dry, cut it into cubes or slices, depending on your preference. Aim for uniform pieces to ensure even cooking.
In a mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, vegetable oil, sweet smoked paprika, and black pepper. Whisk until well combined.
Add the tofu pieces to the marinade, ensuring each piece is thoroughly coated. Allow the tofu to marinate for at least 15 minutes, or longer if you have time.
After marinating, sprinkle the cornstarch over the tofu and toss gently to coat. This will help create a crispy crust during baking.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the coated tofu in a single layer. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the tofu is golden brown and crispy.
Once the tofu is baked to perfection, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy it in salads, grain bowls, or on its own as a snack!
