Ingredients

  • 1 avocado (mashed)
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice (from 1/2 lime)
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper (freshly ground, or to taste)
  • 2 sheets puff pastry (1 package)
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 6 ounces mozzarella cheese (cut into 12 cubes of 1 inch each)
  • 1 cup salsa

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowl
  • Pastry brush
  • Rolling Pin

Method

Preparation Steps
  1. Begin by mashing the avocado in a mixing bowl. Add the lime juice and freshly ground pepper, stirring until well combined.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). If your puff pastry is not already rolled out, use a rolling pin to gently roll it to about 1/8 inch thickness.
  3. Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut the puff pastry into squares, approximately 4 inches by 4 inches. You should be able to get about 12 squares from the two sheets.
  4. On each square, place a spoonful of the avocado mixture in the center, followed by a cube of mozzarella cheese.
  5. Fold each pastry square over to form a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal. Use a fork to crimp the edges for an extra secure seal and an attractive design.
  6. Place the assembled puffs on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg using a pastry brush.
  7. Bake the puffs in your preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are puffed up and golden brown.
  8. Once out of the oven, let the puffs cool for a few minutes before serving. Pair them with your favorite salsa for dipping.

Notes

  • Don't overfill the pastry to prevent bursting while baking.
  • Keep puff pastry cold for maximum flakiness.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
